BIOGRAFIA

BIOGRAPHY
Marino Iotti was born in Reggio Emilia in 1954, he approached painting at a very young age, learning the technical
bases by attending the courses that Prof. Giulio Soriani held at the Piccola Accademia di Regina Pacis, and later
with the sculptor Ugo Sterpini.
In 1978 he began his exhibition activity in Scandiano with “Studio aperto”, a studio/gallery that was intended to be a
meeting point and comparison between artists. Although increasingly fascinated by aniconic painting, Iotti devoted
a part of the early eighties to the study of Italian painting of the twentieth century. A studio that allows the artist to
strengthen his technical skills. But it was with artists such as Graham Sutherland and Giacometti that the gradual
transition to a language that was at first symbolic (with themes of social problems) took place and then moved on
to abstract/informal painting.
For some years now he has also been working on ceramic decoration at Ceramiche San Giorgio in Albissola,
Savona, where a large panel has been installed in the Open Air Museum of Ceramics in Ellera.
In 2011 the Civic Museum of Reggio Emilia dedicated an anthological exhibition to him. In 2017 he won the Lifetime
Achievement Award at the Spoleto Art Festival.
In 2014 he was invited to the Triennial Exhibition of Visual Arts of Rome.
There have been numerous workshops with kindergarten children in some municipalities in the province of Reggio
Emilia, both with people suffering from mental distress, very stimulating experiences both from the social point of
view and from the creative one.
The incessant research is the characteristic of the whole work of Marino Iotti, a continuous research, never forced
and always in progress, a passionate study of the subtle balances that the color and the sign can still transmit.
He has been exhibiting since 1978, has exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, his works
are forwarded in important collections both public and private and in many museums.
